Narrative
This is a selection of RSD 1997006. Of 38 seeds of RSD 1997006, 27 germinated. ISSR markers revealed that all seedlings were unique and therefore zygotic (work performed by
Prof Mikeal Roose
, 2001). Retained 15 seeedlings. On 10/30/2007, RSD 1997006 was observed by Toni Siebert, David Karp, and myself. RSD 1997006 was observed to have missing or vestigial juice vesicles, which Davis stated has great significance to rabbis. In addition, fruit of RSD 1997006 had a tendency to have a "belt" or "girdle" (indented mid-section). David stated that Moshe Bar-Joseph had said that this was due to the presence of a viroid. As seedling trees, it is unlikely that these would have viroids. The rind was sweet. On 01/08/2010, three seedlings were selected and propagated for maintenance under protection: RRUT 413, RRUT 414, and RRUT 415. The remainder of the seedlings will be maintained for the time being. RRUT 413 was selected from a tree with fruit typical of RSD 1997006, the fruit having thick rinds with a girdle. (RR Krueger, 02/27/2009)
