Elevation: 1650m.
Environment description: 2 meters above a stream in an open woodland setting along a path. Periodic flooding takes place in this zone. <3 degrees of slope with a northern aspect. Among rocks in sandy silt-loam soils deposited by stream.
Associated species: Carpinus, Juglans, Lonicera, Quercus, Salix, and several herbaceous species.
Comment: Collected from more than five trees.

Narrative
Seed collected from two plants at the Morris Arboretum which were grown from wild collected seed. Plants were open pollinated, but there are no other flowering C. fargessii at the arboretum. Single-stemmed, deciduous tree with pyramidal spreading habit; 12 to 15 meters tall; 15 to 25 cm DBH; papery exfoliating bark (bark on young trees looks much like immature Betula nigra bark).
