Narrative
Plants approximately 1 meter tall. Curator comment: original seed sample a mixture of two species; attempted to separate. Sample 1 (will retain Ames 30196) consisted of smaller-sized golden-colored fruits. Fruits made up of two "bristle-type" mericarps, two "spined-type" mericarps, and one mericarp of each type - bristled and spined. Some mericarps had both features - spines and bristles with the bristles on the dorsal ridges. It appeared some umbles had "bristle-type" fruits in centers of umbuelles with the spined seeds surrounding it. Other umbels had "bristle-type" fruits throughout center of umbel. Sample 2 (will be assigned Ames 30473) consisted of much larger grayish-white fruits with broader, confluent spines. Also present were "bristle-type" fruits in the centers of the umbuelles.
