Narrative
Note: 'Gou tou cheng' as a cultivar name is generally used to refer to a variety of sour orange; however, these citrons were referred to by this name by the donor. This is a selection of an open pollinated seedling of RSD 1996004. Of 50 seeds of RSD 1996004, 20 germinated. ISSR markers indicated that all seedlings were unique and therefore zygotic (work performed by Prof Mikeal Roose, 1999). Retained 15 seedlings. "Fruit is smaller with many seeds. It is used as a citrus rootstock in west Yunnan widely." (donor's notes). On 01/08/2009, two selections were made of this accession and were propagated for maintenance under protection: RRUT 399 and RRUT 400. RRUT 399 has a thicker skin, as was observed in citrons in Binchuan, Yunnan, China in 2008 by myself and David Karp. The remainder of the seeldings will also be maintained for the time being. This was received as 'Gout tou cheng' but the correct cultivar name is 'Gou cheng'. (RR Krueger, 09/24/2012)
