Narrative
This is a selection of an open pollinated seedling of RSD 1996003. Of 20 seeds, 4 germinated and were retained. ISSR markers indicated that all seedlings were unique and therefore zygotic (work performed by
Prof Mikeal Roose
, 1999). The accession RSD 1996003 was observed 10/30/2007 with
David Karp
and
Toni Siebert
. The fruit were osberved to have missing or vestigial juice vesicles, a characteristic that is of great significance to rabbis. Consequently, four selections were made 01/08/2009 and renumbered as RRUT 395, RRUT 396, RRUT 397, and RRUT 398. According to David Karp, these four trees were Rabbi Schwartz's favorites. The four selections were propagated both as budded trees and as cuttings. The cuttings will be maintained under protection and propagated as always ungrafted trees. The remainder of the seedling trees will be maintained in the field for the time being. (RR Krueger, 01/31/2010)
