14.0 meters in height with a D.B.H. of 21.0 cm. Very shaggy bark and fruit with large scales. Associated with Abies balsamea, Acer rubrum, A. spicatum, Cornus canadensis, Fagus grandifolia, Picea, Tsuga canadensis, and Viburnum lantanoides.
