Description:
Scout was developed by 2 cycles of recurrent breeding for improved forage yield and in vitro dry matter digestibility using the cultivar Nebraska 54 as the base population. The breeding method was restricted recurrent mass selection. Selected plants were intermated in isolation to produce seed to start the next cycle. Each cycle took approximately five years. After cycle 2, seed was increased for small plot trials and a grazing trial. Scout was evaluated and tested as NE 54 C2.
