Narrative
Jasminum lanceolarium
Roxb.
Genus:
Jasminum
Section:
Trifoliolata
Family:
Oleaceae
Tribe:
Jasmineae
Nomen number:
405181
Place of publication:
Fl. ind. 1:97. 1820 "
lanceolaria
Comment:
although some maintain that the spelling "
lanceolaria
" was intentionally used by Roxburgh, and apparently not as an adjective, this is not so, as in each of the 10 times he employed this epithet he was describing the leaves or leaflets as "lanceolar". Excluding this one, 8 of the genera involved were of feminine gender and his usage was "
lanceolaria
, the ninth (
Calophyllum
) was neuter and his usage was accordingly "
lanceolarium
". Thus his wrong usage of a feminine ending under
Jasminum
is treated as an error to be corrected under
Shenzhen ICN
