Narrative
Phoenix acaulis is a clustering, acaulous ("stemless") species with bulbous stems of only about 10 cm height. It is sometimes mistaken for P loureiri. According to S Barrow (A Monograph of Phoenix L. Kew Bull 53:513-575, 1998), the conservation status of this species is "unclear". However, it is a matter of some concern due to habitat loss in that region. (RRK, 10/2006)
