Narrative

'Fantastico' is a recent selection of Bergamot and accounts for the majority of Italy's bergamot production. The tree is said to be vigorous, yield well, and not be prone to alternate bearing. The fruit is said to be of medium size (130 g) with rough rind and yielding good quality oil. Mid-season (Dec - Jan). See Saunt, 2000. This selection was apparently imported from Sicily (Acireale?) to Argentina in the early 1990s. It has not been evaluated in Argentina. (RRK, 06/2006)

This accession perished in the Great Greenhouse Meltdown of 2007. (RRK, 07/08/2007)

Reintroduced from Italian source as RRUT 387, now renumbered as RCRC 4267. (RR Krueger, 03/21/2008)
