Narrative
Fourwing saltbush, Atriplex canescens is an erect shrub that can grow to 6 ft. tall. Snake River Plains Germplasm under irrigated conditions at Aberdeen, ID grows to about 3 ft. wide by 4 ft. tall. Under dryland conditions near Grantsville, UT it grows to about 2 ft. wide by 2 ft. tall. Fourwing saltbush is dioecious. Leaves are alternate, sessile, and up to 2 in long. Fruit bracts have 4 prominent wings.

Snake River Plains Selected Class Germplasm was selected from a collection of 83 accessions assembled and evaluated at the Aberdeen Plant Materials Center from 1977-1986. Snake River Plains Germplasm 9067480 is a composite of 9003126, 9003134, 9003135, & 9003136. The 4 accessions were selected for their tolerance to cold temperatures and then were planted in a seed increase block that was not reproductively isolated. Resulting seed was given accession number 9067480.
