A total of 14 sites were sampled representing 9 counties including Warren (2 sites), Lucas, Clarke, Monroe (2 sites), Appanoose (2 sites), Lee (2 sites), Marion, Mahaska (2 sites), Washington.

Southern Iowa Germplasm was developed by bulking samples followed by a regeneration cycle executed at the University of Northern Iowa Tallgrass Prairie Center where plots were separated via distance of circa 1,500 feet from other Veronicastrum virginicum plots. Original seed was collected from remnant prairies in the southern one-third of counties in Iowa.
