Narrative
Winter triticale developed by CIMMYT, Mexico, reselected and released as a forage cv. in Mexico by the Universidad Autonoma Agraria "Antonio Narro" in 1992 (Reg. No. TCL-07-080592). Complete hexaploid winter triticale genotype. Tall (165-180 cm), late maturity (155-180 d). Long, fully awned, white, dense and medium upright spikes. Kernels medium dark in color with good animal feeding quality. Evaluated in advanced forage yield trials under 15 environments of northern Mexico from 1987 to 1991. On average, yielded 8590 kg/ha (37 and 60% more dry forage than Eronga 83 spring triticale and Cuauhtemoc oat, respectively). Average crude protein content 26.2, 24.7, and 16.7% at the first, second and third cut, respectively. In vitro dry matter digestibility 75, 71, and 67% at first, second and third cut, respectively. At present, used in northern States of Mexico mainly for grazing of fattening yearling steers and heifers.
