Description:
PM24 resulted from a breeding program involving crossing, backcrossing, and selfing among four distinct parental genotypes. a.) PM96-2, an F3 selection, developed by selfing the monoecious F1 hybrid, Primo. PM96-2 was monoecious, oval in shape and have shallow sutures. It was susceptible to Fusarium, races 1 and 2, powdery mildew, Crown Blight, and applied sulfur. b.) Topmark (TM), an open pollinated western shipper cantaloupe. TM is susceptible to Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew, but resistant to Crown blight and applied sulfur. TM is non-sutured. c.) PMTP, and F6 selection resulting from a cross between PM96-2 and Topmark. PMTP was round, fully netted and non-sutured. It was also susceptible to all races of Fusarium wild and powdery mildew. It was also susceptible to Crown Blight. d.) WS24, a proprietary western shipper breeding line that has been described, under PVP application no 200000012, filed on October 15, 1999.
