Environment description: On slope next to low boggy area, fairly open habitat, 30 deg. slope, W aspect, dappled shade, gritty silt soil over shale fragments.

Comment: Multi-stemmed shrub 7' tall, assoc. plts: tilia americana, Tsuga canadensis, Liriodendron tulipifera, Oxydendron arboreun, Acer pensylvanicum, Carpinus caroliniana, Cornus florida, Rhododendron maximum, and Nyssa sylvatica.
