Narrative
Cultivar of Arboretum at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden. One of the first selections made of this species; allegedly sterile and non-fruit bearing but has produced 1 or 2 fruits in container at Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden. Range: Cultivar of Fragaria chiloensis, a species that occurs on ocean beaches and grasslands of the cental and north coasts of California to Alaska as well as SW South America, generally below 600 ft. Color: Dark green, glossy leaves with three, toothed leaflets that take on red tints in the winter; large white flowers in spring but does not produce fruit. Habit: Spreading, low-growing, lush perennial forming broad mats 6-12 in. high; spreads by rhizomes and leafless stolons.
