Locality: Virginia Creeper Trail, at the confluence of Middle Fork Holston River and South Fork Holston River. Washington county, Virginia.

Habitat: Wild Habitat
Environment description: In cracks, ledges and base of Limstone railroad cut in rich woods in heavy shade.
Comment: Layered tip of cane. Don't know if limestone rock is necessary, but did not see the plants in the woods above and below (brief inspection). Fruit is very spiny, but fair sized for a wild plant. Fruit is done by this time.
