Narrative
Last year in December of 1992, I sent you some seeds from my F1-hybrid of Vaccinium staminium x V. vitis-idaea. This December of 1993, I'm sending you some seeds from my F1-hybrid that are backcrossed to V. vitis-idaea. A clone of V. vitis-idaea from Bar Harbor, Maine grows under the F1-hybrid bush. I placed a plant of Siissi, clone of V. vitis-idaea that come from breeding in Sweden, under the F1-hybrid bush. I observed bees visiting both clones of V. vitis-idaea when in blossom and also flying to the F1-hybrid bush. The deerberry bush was covered with bee-proof net so that backcrosses to the lingonberry resulted. There were 2 or 3 seeds set per berry on the F1-hybrid bush. I enclose a packet of seeds with appropriate notes written on the packet. I shall be 84 years old when grass grows green on my front lawn once again.
