Narrative
Developed by three cycles of recurrent selection for resistance to anthracnose, and is highly resistant (66%; resistant check, ARC, 65%) to this pathogen. Under 30 day irrigation intervals in southern New Mexico, forage production was 2% higher than the best commercial cultivar and 47% greater than its parent Wilson. Under 14 day irrigation intervals forage yield was comparable to most other cultivars. Fall-dormancy similar to that of Mesilla (fall dormancy class=6). Not tested for resistance to other pests and pathogens, but its parent population, Wilson, is resistant to bacterial wilt, fusarium wilt, and the pea aphid; moderately resistant to stem nematode and spotted alfalfa aphid; and is susceptible to anthracnose, phytophthora root rot, and the blue alfalfa aphid.
