Environment description: Very steep slope in a deep, shaded woodland valley. Growing in a dry streambed with a heavy boulder field. Slope: 60 percent. Aspect:Northwest.
Associated species: Asarum sp.; Kerria japonica; Clematis sp.; bamboo; Betula sp.; Meliosma sp.; Actaea japonica [listed as Cimicifuga japonica]; Alangium sp.
Comment: Single-trunked, needled evergreen tree with narrow conical habit; lateral branches weeping on the tips. Height: 25 m. D.B.H.: 60 cm. Bark: gray-brown and moss-covered. Seeds collected from one plant. Six vouchers collected (NACPEC96-193). Not photographed.
