Environment description: Growing in dense shade on a well-drained ledge; humusy loam soil with deep organic surface layer. Slope: 70 percent. Aspect: Northeast.
Associated species: Lindera sp., Hydrangea sp., Quercus sp., Neolitsea sp., bamboo, ferns and Epimedium sp.
Comment: Evergreen, low growing, stoloniferous groundcover. Height: 30 cm. Fruit: green, spherical, short-stalked, axillary, in clusters of 1-4. Additional miscellaneous collection notes: Seeds collected from several plants. Six vouchers collected (NACPEC96-122). Not photographed.

Narrative
Received as Sarococca hookeriana. Note ca 2007: Remaining plants not distinguishable as to individual seedlings that may have once been present (11, according to plant record for 67751*H). Several qualifiers have been separated as divisions or cuttings from the mass qualified as H. Reidentified as var. digyna on 9/14/2018 based on developing fruit consistently displaying just two carpels rather than three, but possibly var. humilis after reviewing additional literature (Sealy's revision of the genus, as well as the recent 2017 molecular work by Denaeghel et al.) This form has somewhat narrower, more elongated foliage than typical clones of S. hookeriana var. humilis already in cultivation; the leaves are glossy and dark green.
