Locality: Shexian County, Qingliang Peak Reserve: Houershi. Valley called the Da Xi, which supposedly means Elephant-Lion Valley.

Environment description: Open meadow, near stream, sloping site, 45 degree slope, east aspect, rocky. Growing with Grewia, Emmenopterys, Lindera, Lespedeza, ferns, Camellia sp.

Narrative
Single stemmed tree, 12 m, D.B.H. 7.5 cm; lateral branches, alternate, simple foliage; infloresence borne terminatly. Bark smooth with horizontal lenticels. Leaves simple, alternate, with red petiole. Fruit upright, borne in clusters with dihiscant capsules. Herbarium specimen collected.
