Coordinates: 34.0856, -93.1751 (Map it)
Elevation: 170m.
Environment description: Blackland prairie and savannah under restoration. Partial to full sun on a gentle slope. Sandy, well drained soil with low stoniness.
Number of plants sampled: 46
Associated species: Schizachyrium scoparium, Panicum anceps, Panicum virgatum, Sorghastrum nutans, Echinacea pallida, Liatris aspera, Euphorbia bicolor, Silphium laciniatum, and Eryngium.
Comment: Assisted by Douglas Zollner (CNO 105119). Site number 055. 46 coneflowers collected. Two close subpopulations were bulked, with an estimated total population size of 400 specimens.

Narrative

Plants were 2-3 feet tall (shorter than other wild Echinacea purpurea populations), relatively abundant where occurred (but did not occur throughout the site), with frequent branching at upper stem rather than from base. Plants have purple flowers with bright orange palea, providing ornamental potential.
