Narrative
Type = Rotundifolia. Latham is a selection of V. rotundifolia made from the wild in North Carolina sometime prior to the Civil War. It has black fruit wth a very sweet good flavor. Latham has been a notable parent in Muscadine grape breeding transmitting high soluble solids, high quality, didease resistance and vigor to many of its offspring. Some information on Latham traits may be found in Williams, C. F. 1955. Breeding Perfect flowered Muscadine Grapes. Proc. Amer. Soc. Hort. Sci. 64: 274-278.
