Type = Apricot. PI 2489779 is a seedling selection from seeds collected as PI 121466. Fruit 4.5 inches circumference, flattened, with deep suture which has tendency to split; skin yellow; flesh firm, cling type; reliable producer. Evaluated by Joley, 8/13/1945 and again 6/25/1946 at USDA, Chico, California: "The tree is very large, thrifty, spreading; a very good orchard type of tree. Good crop for 1945. Dropping considerably. Lots of good quality at time of picking." "Small. Orange-yellow skin - very little blush. Orange flesh. Cling. Quality fair." Joley, USDA: [Ripens June 15 to early July; usually a few days earlier than PI 255319; fruit characteristics: diameter 1.5 to 2 inches, shape mostly round, suture very shallow to shallow, skin on some fruits pale yellow, but mostly all yellow; variable blush, trace to light amount, flesh yellow; medium firm to firm; texture medium to slightly coarse grain; no fiber noted, juice medium amount, flavor medium amount of sugar; low to medium acid; medium aroma; poor to fair quality, stone semicling to cling, kernel medium amount of bitterness, tends to drop some fruits before fully mature; tree characteristics: diameter 24 inches one foot above ground level, 40 feet high, low incidence of brown rot (Monilinia laxa), shot hole (Coryneum carpophilum) and bacterial canker (Pseudomonas syringae) on both fruit and tree.]
