Environment description: Shaded by hemlock and spruce. Associated plants: Cornus, Echinopanax, Menziesia, Tsuga mertensiana, Picea sitchensis , Lycopodium annotinum, foam flower and Dryopteris dilatata.
Comment: collected from the wild and brought to the NCGR-Corvallis Fruit collected from the single clone found. Open pollinated fruit sample and herbarium sample collected. Leaves lighter green than those of V. ovalifolium.
