Locality: Semipalitinsk Region - Tarbagatai Mountain region. 4 km. NE of Alekseyevka, 20 km. north of Urdzhar. Collected middle of south valley (site 10, 1995) on south side, 50 ft. from field edge, may be same as one elite collected in 1995.
Coordinates: 47.2642, 81.5792 (Map it)
Elevation: 840m.
Environment description: Soil: silt, little rock, good drainage. Variable incline, open, ridges on valleys. Dominant tree sp: M. sieversii; Associated: Crataegus. Dominant shrub sp: Rosa; Assoc: Lonicera. Dominant herhaceous: Humulus; Assoc: Circium. Rainfall 400mm
Comment: Variable tree size, quite clean. 15% fruiting. Fruit sample 1/25.

Narrative
Sampled 25 fruits from 1 tree. Flesh flavor is aromatic and sweet. Over color is 60% red. Fruit size is larger than 50mm. Free of disease and insects. May be same as elite collected in 1995. Scion collected also. ---Malus sieversii hybrid. Domestic introgression intentified using 20K Illumina Infinium apple SNP array--Noted by Philip Forsline that this was possibly the same tree sampled in 1995 - presumably he was correct as this was a duplicate of PI_613978. Grosse_de_Saint_Clement is a possible grandparent but likely further removed.
