Environment description: Volcanic ash, very dry - as Popenoe (1921) described. 35 cm annual rainfall, plants are not irrigated. Field has been Huachi strawberry for 100-250 years. Plants spaced about 1 plant per 0.3 square meter.
Comment: Vigorous, compact, thick leaves, runners and petioles. Leaves heavily pubescent on lower surface. Fruit up to 15g; firm, pinkish, with a pleasant, delicate flavor. Flowers large, hermaphroditic. Roots at least 20 cm long. Healthy.
