Locality: Small research area on outskirts of Choibalson City operated by Ministry of Agriculture to test vegetables from throughout the world. Approximately 2 ha, fenced, and irrigated with water from Herlen River.

Environment description: Grass steppe (cultivated river terrace). Light brown, loamy river terrace soils with high gravel content. Aspect and slope horizontal.
Comment: Adjacent to vegetable test area is test plot for rice supported by Japanese. Disturbed agricultural area with Achnatherum splendens and Chloris virgatain field margins.
