Surface wax coating on the spike appears to be absent (wax code - ++ ++). A translocation is present in the cer-i.25 stock, with one of the break points being close to the cer-i locus. Concerning epicuticular wax composition, the wax tubes are much shorter in the mutant, and the amount of two types of diketones (( )-diketone and hydroxy-( )-diketone) is proportionally reduced. Inheritance: Monofactorial recessive. Located in chromosome 5HL [7L], about 5.6 cM distal from the ari-e (breviaristatum-e) locus. Previous nomenclature and gene symbolization: None.
