Mutants appear to lack surface wax coating on the spike, surface wax on the sheath may be reduced or absent (wax codes - - ++ and - +/- ++). The allele cer-n.20 does not recombine with the eog locus because a translocation is present in the original stock. The cer-n.20 stock may have a translocation breakpoint about 13.0 cM proximal from the vrs1 locus. Inheritance: Monofactorial recessive, except Cer-n.969. Located in chromosome 2HL, gsh9.al is about 8.8 cM distal fromt he eog (elongated outer glume) locus, and about 23.3 cM proximal from the vrs1 (six-rowed spike 1) locus. Previous nomenclature and gene symbolization: Eceriferum-zm=cer-zm. Glossy sheath 9=gs9.
