Surface wax coating on the leaf blade appears to be absent (wax code ++ ++ -). Concerning the chemical epicuticular wax composition, the reduction in the amount of surface wax is accompanied by a decrease in the size and morphological complexity of the wax bodies. The wax body structure is of single, double, and triple finger-like forms. Inheritance: Monofactorial recessive. Located in chromosome 7HS [1S], over 23.7 cM proximal from the brh1 (brachytic 1) locus. Previous nomenclature and gene symbolization: Glossy seedling 5=gl5.
