Environment description: Plant growing on a south facing slope in full sun in association with Lezpedeza bicolor, Quercus sp., Dianthus chinensis and Carpinus turczaninovii.

Comment: Single-stemmed, evergreen tree with broadspreading habit to 7 meters tall; needles to 10cm long are borne in fascicles of 2 with a papery sheath prominent on current season's growth; cones are brown, 5 cm long, 4 cm wide with blunt awns.
