Environment description: Growing at the base of a north facing cliff in direct association with Clematis sp., Deutzia sp., ferns Cornus bretschneideri, Spiraea sp., and Fraxinus sp.
Comment: Multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub 2 meters tall with upright arching habit; bark when young is striated and with age becoming thin and shredding; leaves, simple, opposite; ovate, wider at the base, dark green above, light green,glabrous below.
