Environment description: Growing in part to full shade in woodland on N-facing dry slope; growing under Pinus tabulaeformis; in association with Lezpedeza bicolor, Acer truncatum, Syringa pekinensis, Populus davidiana, Ulmus macrocarpa and Corylus heterophylla.
Comment: Deciduous, upright arching, multi-stemmed shrub 1.5 2.5 meters tall with prominent exfoliating bark on mature seeds.
