Environment description: Growing on steep west-SW facing slopes; very dry at this time of year; in association with Quercus sp., Spiraea sp., Corylus heterophylla, Populus davidiana, and Vitex negundo var. heterophylla; can be used to make tool handles.
Comment: Multi-stemmed, deciduous tree with upright branching 3 to 5 meters tall; bark has prominent horizontal lenticels with muscular bark; stems 5 to 7 cm DBH; leaves are shiny above, however, there is some leaf spotting.
