Environment description: In shade in a plantation of Pinus tabulaeformis on a steep slope with a thick layer of pine needles in association with Cephalotaxus sinensis, Rhododendron micranthum, Quercus spinosa and a few other herbaceous species.

Narrative
Single-stemmed conical shaped, upright evergreen trees, with lower branches shaded out by surrounding trees; plants are 5 to 11 meters tall with a DBH ranging from 14.6 to 29cm; leaves are needle-like, 1.0 to 1.5 cm long and more or less arranged in a single plane; individual needles vary in length along the stem giving an uneven appearance, cone is brown to tannish-brown, 2.5 cm long with numerous scales.
