Narrative
Although this accession was received as having wild provenance, the specifics of that provenance were not transmitted with the plant material; evidence from the 1993 Chollipo Arboretum Index Seminum [found with NA 66622-66640] strongly suggests that this was actually collected from cultivated plants at Korea National Arboretum (Kwangnung Arboretum). The material likely originated in North Korea if it was both correctly and specifically determined as Z. (A.) mosanensis, and should not be automatically assumed to be identical to the possible South Korean species Z. tyaihyoni (tyaihyonii), given the results of Jacobs et al. (2010). Phylogeny of the Linnaea clade: Are Abelia and Zabelia closely related?. However, this accession could possibly be Z. tyaihyoni (of South Korean origin) and not Z. mosanensis (of North Korean origin) after all, if Z. tyaihyoni material was formerly treated as Z. (A.) mosanensis in South Korea. Further evidence would be needed to determine which is the correct identity for this accession.
