Deciduous, herbaceous perennial with terminal globe-shaped, thistle-like fruits, 35 to 45 cm tall; leaves yellow-green above and silver-white beneath; fruit globe-shaped, numerous seed forming in thistle-like inflorescence, some fruits still retain blue color.
