Narrative
Originated in Michigan; wild plant selection. Introduced by Parkhill Nursery, Bismark, North Dakota in 1974. Species uncertain; recent genetic finterprinting studies suggest that it is a hybrid of A. stolonifera with A. alnifolia. Fruit up to 13 mm diameter; obovate to nearly spherical, blue-black with bloom; typically 7 to 11 per cluster, clusters fairly open, fairly even ripening; flavor mild and bland; pH 4.1. Shrub to 1.5 m high; initially upright to spreading, 2.5 m spread at maturity; lo to moderate suckering, crown expands slowly. Hardy to zone 2. susceptible to powdery mildew.
