Benth. from Tucker who collected it by Old Mill near the Central Railroad, NE of High Bridge, NJ. Appears to be a hybrid of M. aquatica and M. spicata var. crispa. (MJM - +- 6x hybrid, crisp-leaved, terminal flowers, odor spearmint and hot. Strain is male sterile and highly seed sterile in crosses with Dutch aquatica (10172); 24 secondary hybrids, presumably having 120 somatic chromosomes, were highly variable in appearance with some flat-leaved and others crisp-leaved; some were menthone odored, others were high alcohol spearmints).
