Narrative
At collection time the plants were drying after frost, the leaves had fallen. Plants 10 to 100cm tall, dioecious. In a sample of 100 female plants, 17% had red upper stems, 83% green. The male plants were more dry and brittle than the females. Sample size 500, pop. size thousands. Some plants are natural hybrids with Amaranthus tuberculatus, hybrid females lack tepals and have non circumscissile utricles.
