Narrative

In addition to resistance to wildfire (N. longiflora introgression via TL 106) and TMV (N. glutinosa introgression via Ky 56), Burley 21 has moderate to low resistance to black root rot and has tolerance to lesion nematodes. The parentage of Burley 21 includes the following varieties with backcrosses in the order shown: TL 106, Kentucky 16, Greeneville 5, Kentucky 41A, Kentucky 56 X Greeneville 18. Development of Burley 21 was completed by HE Heggestad, EE Clayton, MO Neas, and HA Skoog and it was released to growers in 1955. (Heggestad. 1966. Crop Sci 6:612-3)
