Connecticut Su-Mutant
Type: Unverified name
Narrative
This variety is an aurea tobacco mutant of the Connecticut cigar cultivar John Williams Broadleaf that was detected in 1962 and officially released in 1975. Seed lot exhibits phenotypic ratios of 1 green: 2 yellow-green: 1 albino (lethal). The sulfur-yellow appearance of the surviving mutant class suggested the term Su to describe the mutation factor. The three phenotypes were designated Su/Su for albino, Su/su for yellow-green, and su/su for the normal green wild type. (Menser et al. 1976. Crop Sci 16:606)
