Narrative
Pyrus hybrid (pyrifolia?). Collector number K-15 (Korea 15). Seed collected in the wild by M.N. Westwood on 9 September, 1981 in the Woal Ark Mountains, near Chungju. Rocky, granite soil, pH 5, steep slope at 550 m (about 100 m from tree K-16 (PI 541913)). Lowest temp. about -30 C. Large old tree, leaves fairly typical of P. pyrifolia, but fruit with persistent calyx, russeted, 3 cm diam., nearly maature. Only two trees on this slope. This is possibly crossing with tree K-16, which looks like wild P. pyrifolia. Original sample 12 seeds. -- J. Postman, 2006, from M.N. Westwood collection notebook.
