Narrative
Pyrus pyrifolia. Collector number K-16 (Korea 16). Seed collected in the wild by M.N. Westwood on 9 September, 1981 in the Woal Ark Mountains. Rocky granite soil, pH 5, steep slope in mixed trees and vines, elevation 500 m. Lowest temp about -30 C. Large olf tree (trunk ca 40 cm diam.), leaves large, setose serrate, tip long accuminate, blade 12 cm long 7 cm wide. Fruit russeted, deciduous calyx, 5 carpels, size 3.5 - 4 cm.diam., slightly pyriform, pedicels 4.5 - 5.2 cm. Possibly crossed with K-15 (CPYR 7). These are the only pear trees found.
