Seed collected in Japan by Dr. Ichiro Kajiura and sent to M. N. Westwood. Received in Corvallis, Oregon on 10 May, 1983 by Westwood. Original Iwate Yamanashi (Pyrus aromatica Nak and Kik.) collected in Iwate prefecture, Japan, approx. 141.5 degreesEast longitude, 39.5 degrees North latitude. Leaves similar to P. ussuriensis, fruit smooth, green, some russetted. Trees hardier than P. pyrifolia. Hand-crossed at Tsukuba: Iwate Yamanashi x Sotoorihime.
