Snow cover 2-3m, 58 days 50cm or deeper. Minimum temperature -20C. Shrub evergreen, low, 60-90cm tall, growing from underground runners. Leaves lustrous above, blue green beneath. Fruit purple. Growing in deep woodland under Fagus crenata. Cuttings obtained from male plants.
