Narrative
Walnut 149 rootstock paradox. Information received at Plant Introduction: 'Hybrid 470'. Reportedly J. regia 'Ideal' x mandshurica. Frost resistant; precocious bearer; resistant to Marsonia. Average nut weight 11.14 grams; kernel output 46.5 percent. Chico source tree of DJUG 149 was evaluated in 1969 timeframe with the following results: Low yield; Midseason harvest; 38mm diameter; Eureka shape; Fair kernel separation; Good shell seal; 48 percent kernel; Kernel weight 5.5 grams; Amber kernel.
