Narrative
Prostrate monoecious annual; leaves 2-4 inches long, similar to C. ficifolius, deeply cut into 5-7 obovate-round toothed lobes, scabous on both surfaces; ovary echinate with short stiff prickles; fruit oblong, 2 inches long, on stout, curved peduncle 3-5 inches long, rounded at both ends, smooth, glabrous except for a few scattered prickles; seeds 0.18 inch long, elliptic-oblong, pale brown, smooth, margins rounded. This accession large fruited type with long spines. Originally from Southern Rhodesia.
